Healing Foods for Arthritis
Healing medicine has some wonderful answers for arthritis pain. Taking a hot herbal bath or getting a massage with medicinal oils can go a long way toward easing pain and stuffness.
Foods that Help Arthritis Pain:
Sip some white willow bark tea. Aspirin was discovered more than 100 years ago by a German chemist who studied white willow bark’s pain relieving properties. But white willow bark has an edge over aspirin. It doesn’t cause stomach irritation as aspirin does. It may not be the best tasting beverage, but a strong cup of white willow bark tea will do wonders to relieve the inflammation in a sore joint.
To make the tea, steep 1 teaspoon of white willow bark in a cup of boiling water, cover for 15 minutes. Strain out the bark and drink a cup three times a day.
Herbal rubs: A medicated rub made with pure essential oils can ease inflammation and joint pain. Buy a small jar of petroleum jelly and take out 1 tablespoon. Put in 20 drop of essential oil of lemon and 20 drops of essential oil of sandalwood. Mix the oils well into the petroleum jelly and apply a dab to the sore joint four times a day.
Burdock and Dandelion Sollutions: If you stimulate liver function and improve the flow of bile, herbalists believe it helps to improve arthritis. For tea boil 1 teaspoon of dried dandelion root and dried burdock root in 3 cups of water for 5 minutes, then sip it throughout the day. Drink it daily until you notice some improvement. This tea will be bitter. By adding a little honey the bitterness will be much improved.
Agrimony is another traditional medicine for what people used to call rheumatism. It is known for reducing pain and inflammation.
Black Cohosh oil or cream has been suggested for women who have arthritis. But don’t use it for more than 6 months. You can add a few tablespoons of oil infused with black cohosh to your bath. The combination of a hot bath and herbal oil will relieve pain.
